Overview

The Rialto Unified School District is considering a transaction with NEXTEL Communications that will allow the District to acquire a completely new state-of-the-art UHF Trunking System, with GPS/AVL capability from Motorola. It is important that this new system meet the requirements of the district in the future while at the same time meeting today’s needs. The present system consists of a conventional 800 Mhz. single channel system.

As more and more families move into the Rialto area the tremendous growth of the District requires a radio communications system that is both flexible and scalable. Safety and accountability are also a major concern for the District and need to be addressed in any new communications system. This proposal outlines ComSerCo’s commitment to provide the highest quality products and service available in the industry. Our goal is to provide the District with a modern and efficient communications system that meets all of Rialto’s needs now and in the future.

ComSerCo’s Solution

The system Infrastructure will consist of a four channel Motorola UHF-LTR Trunking Repeater System. The utilization of a trunked system is an efficient way of controlling multiple frequencies. With the use of a trunking system, talkgroups are assigned to individual departments or users. If one channel is busy the system will automatically assign the user to a channel that is open. In addition, the system will be integrated with a Global Positioning System that will allow the Transportation Department to track and record all vehicle movements and locations District wide. All vehicle positions will be displayed in real-time on a computer monitor over-laid on a detailed street map.

All portable and mobile radios in the system are capable of the following features.

· Selective Call (paging)
· Call Alert
· Radio Check
· Radio Kill
· Push-to-Talk User Identification.
(See section three & four for detailed explanations of these features)
